Why investing feels like watching a plant

A few months ago, my son went on a school trip to a garden centre. Excited, he came home with a small plant in his hand, full of energy and dreams of seeing it grow tall and strong. He planted it carefully in the soil, watered it diligently, and then… he waited.
Day one, nothing happened.
Day two, still nothing.
By day three, he grew frustrated.
By day four, he gave up.
In his young mind, if he couldn’t see progress quickly, it wasn’t worth the effort.
But here’s the twist: my wife quietly kept watering the plant for him. She didn’t expect overnight miracles; she simply trusted the process.
Weeks later, that little plant had grown tall and leafy. My son couldn’t believe it. The same plant he had abandoned had blossomed because someone patiently nurtured it.
